┌────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┐
│ This is a VENDINFO Product Information Record │
│ │
│ This record is a means of conveying information about a software │
│ product from the author to distributors and users. It contains a │
│ normal, "human-readable" section (you're reading it now), followed │
│ by a compressed data record. The data record contains a great │
│ deal of information in a form useable by automated tools. This │
│ allows BBSes, disk vendors, etc. to test automatically for │
│ permission to distribute, and to automatically extract product │
│ information for use in BBS files databases, vendor catalogs, etc. │
│ │
│ The VENDINFO file standard is published and is freely useable. │
│ │
│ The VENDINFO toolset includes a free end-user viewer, processing │
│ tools for use by distributors (BBSes, shareware disk vendors, │
│ etc.), and the editor used by author/publishers to produce these │
│ records. These tools are either free or very-low cost shareware. │
│ The toolset can be obtained from many sources, including the │
│ originators of VENDINFO: │

===== Information for Users ("READ-ME") ================
Welcome to ZIP Fugue:
═════════════════════
ZIPw V2.0 Windows shell for PKZip & PKUnzip
and
ZIP V1.2 DOS shell for PKZip & PKUnzip
(c) Copyright Fugue Software 1991 to 1994
PKZip & PKUnzip (c) PKWare
ZIP SHELL FOR WINDOWS AND DOS
=============================
PKZip and PKUnzip from PKWare are now the industry standard for
lossless compression of files. They have a host of features, and even
support the addition of descriptions to compressed files. However,
they are also command driven, which makes them difficult to use for
non experts. In addition, there is no way to add or extract 4Dos file
descriptions.
There are other shells for PKZip & PKUnzip on the market. Some of them
are undoubtedly quite good. But what I wanted was a program that would
let you tag files to add to a ZIP file, and then add them along with
their 4Dos file descriptions. In the same way I wanted to be able to
tag the files in ZIP file, and extract them along with their 4DOS file
descriptions. I also wanted to be able to see the descriptions along
with the files. None of the available shells I looked at would do
this.
In 1989 I wrote the first version of ZIP.EXE to do this in a DOS
environment. When I moved to Windows 3.0, I became fed up with having
to open a DOS window to go and zip or unzip files. Finally I got
around to writing a Windows equivalent that could be launched from
program manager - ZIPW.EXE.
Both these programs serve the same function that of adding files to
and extracting files from a ZIP file, while automating the add/extract
of the associated 4DOS descriptions. Of the two, ZIPW is more
sophisticated, using as it does the Multiple Document Interface to
permit you to work on more than one ZIP file at a time. One of these
days I will get around to rewriting the Dos version to provide similar
features.
Until then, ZIPW is V2.0, while ZIP is only V1.2. Both support the new
V2.04g of PKZip and PKUnzip which is the latest version at time of
writing.

===== Installation =====================================
Installation
════════════
Instructions are given here for installing both the Windows version
and the DOS version.
Windows Version
───────────────
Place the disk in your drive, and from program manager type
RUN a:SETUP.EXE
or RUN b:SETUP.EXE
Answer the question about the destination drive. The software
should be installed automatically, and a Program manager group
should be created. You can later move the icons to another
group if you desire.
If you do not have a copy of PKZIP & PKUNZIP, you should then
follow the DOS installation instructions to install PKZip &
PKUnzip on your disk.
BBS Files
─────────
If you have the BBS version of ZIP Fugue, then all you received was
the file ZIPW20.ZIP or ZIPW20.EXE, and all the files have been
archived into this file. In this case you need to extract all the
files to either your hard disk or your floppy disk before you can
run SETUP:
From DOS, copy the file to your hard disk and extract the files
for .ZIP type in PKUNZIP -E ZIPW20
for .EXE type in ZIPW20
Then run SETUP from program manager as described above.
DOS Version
───────────
Place the disk in drive A: or B: and make that drive the
default by typing in A: or B: and press ENTER (or RETURN)
Type in INSTALL
Answer the question about the destination drive, and whether
you want PKZIP and PKUNZIP installed as well.
NOTE - Please ensure that the directory into which you install these
programs is on the DOS path, as well as the directory in wish
you have PKZIP & PKUNZIP, otherwise you may find that you receive
a "File not Found" error from DOS or Windows.

===== License for Use and Distribution =================
ZIP Fugue License Agreement
═══════════════════════════
(1) Copyright: The Zip Fugue programs and all other programs and
documentation distributed or shipped with it are Copyright to Fugue
Software, 1988, 1994, and are protected by Australian and
international copyright law. In the rest of this document, this
collection of programs is referred to simply as "Zip Fugue". You are
granted a license to use your copy of Zip Fugue only under the terms
and conditions specified in this license agreement.
(2) Use of One Copy on Two Computers: If you have a copy of Zip Fugue
which is licensed for use on a single computer, you may install it on
two computers used at two different locations (for example, at work
and at home), provided there is no possibility that the two computers
will be in use at the same time, and provided that you yourself have
purchased ZIP Fugue, or if ZIP Fugue was purchased by your employer,
that you have your employer's explicit permission to install ZIP Fugue
on two systems as described in this paragraph. The right to install
one copy of ZIP Fugue on two computers is limited to copies originally
licensed for use on a single computer, and may not be used to expand
the number of systems covered under a multi-system license.
(3) Use of ZIP Fugue on Networks or Multiple Systems: You may install
your registered copy of ZIP Fugue on a computer attached to a network,
or remove it from one computer and install it on a different one,
provided there is no possibility that your copy will be used by more
users than it is licensed for. A "user" is defined as one keyboard
which is connected to a computer on which ZIP Fugue is installed,
regardless of whether or not the user of the keyboard is aware of the
installation or use of ZIP Fugue in the system.
(4) Making Copies: You may copy any version of ZIP Fugue for normal
backup purposes, and you may give copies of the shareware version to
other individuals, which they may also use and copy subject to the
terms of this agreement. If you copy the shareware version of ZIP
Fugue for others, you must include all of the files distributed with
it, including this one. You may not give copies of the registered
version to any other person for any purpose, and you may not make any
copies of the printed and bound ZIP Fugue manual without explicit
written permission from Fugue Software.
(5) Distribution Restrictions: ASP Vendors may distribute ZIP Fugue as
part of their shareware offerings provided they abide by the ASP
regulations and guidelines. Non ASP vendors may distribute ZIP Fugue
shareware version provided they distribute the entire ZIP Fugue
package. They may add files to it, but under no circumstances may they
remove files. They must also inform buyers of their obligation to
register the program if they continue to use it after a reasonable
evaluation period. NON ASP vendors must also not charge more than a
reasonable copying fee for the disks (around $US3 per 360k disk, and
no more than $US8 for 1.4M disks). Individual copies of the shareware
version may be passed to friends and associates for their individual
use provided the entire package is passed on, and the recipient is
made aware of their obligation to register. This same applies to
hardware vendors who bundle shareware with their systems.
Specifically, ZIP Fugue is NOT free or Public Domain, and you may not
represent it as such. You may not sell the registered version without
express written permission from Fugue Software.
